Decreased serum neutral endopeptidase activity in children with bronchial asthma.

چکیده
In bronchial asthma (BA), symptoms such as cough, wheezing, and sputum can be deteriorated by tachykinins secreted from non-adrenergic, noncholinergic neurons in the bronchial smooth muscles1l. It has been reported that the guinea pig with BA shows decreased NEP activity in the lung4l. However, it is still unclear whether or not the serum NEP (sNEP) levels which affect SP concentration in the serum are altered in BA patients. We measured sNEP activity in children with BA comparing with that of children with atopic dermatitis (AD) who were devoid of BA symptoms, and with that of allergy-free (AF) children.

Determination the Role of Endothelial Cell-Specific Molecule-1(ESM-1) in Childhood Bronchial Asthma
Background Endothelial Cell-Specific Molecule-1 (ESM-1) is a 50 kDa soluble proteoglycan that is produced mainly the vascular endothelial cells of the kidney and lung. It is produced by the effects of proangiogenic and pro-inflammatory cytokines, and it indicates activation and dysfunction of the vascular endothelium. We aimed to detect the role of ESM-1 in childre...
متن کاملEvaluation of Serum Levels of Calprotectin in Asthmatic Children
Background Calprotectin is a cytosolic protein that belongs to the S-100 protein group with immunomodulatory and antiproliferative actions. The level of this protein increases in infection, inflammation, and malignancy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of...
متن کاملAssociation of HLA-Class II and IgE Serum Levels in Pediatric Asthma
Background: Pediatric bronchial asthma is associated with considerable morbidity. The study was carried out to examine the association of Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA)- Class II with the disease as we found no similar study on Asian Indian population. Objective: To define the HLA-Class II antigens in Asian Indian pediatric patients with asthma. Methods: A total of 103 children with asthma and 1...
متن کاملClinical value of monitoring eosinophil activity in asthma.
To evaluate the use of eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) in monitoring disease activity in childhood asthma, serum ECP in 175 asthmatic children was assessed. Forty five patients with cystic fibrosis, 23 with lower respiratory tract infections (LRTI), and 87 healthy children were used as controls. Serum ECP concentrations (34.3 micrograms/l v 9.8 micrograms/l) were significantly higher in child...
متن کاملEosinophil cationic protein mRNA expression in children with bronchial asthma.
Studies have shown that eosinophils are closely related to pathogenesis of bronchial asthma. Eosinophils release eosinophil cationic protein (ECP), which plays an important role in infection and allergic reactions. Serum ECP mRNA expression in children with bronchial asthma has not been adequately investigated. We analyzed serum ECP mRNA expression in 63 children with bronchial asthma and 21 he...
